Use Pennsylvania-specific information
The Pennsylvania Department of Education publishes home education and private tutoring information. These are distinct arrangements; the state’s resources explain the applicable framework and the responsibilities of a home education supervisor.

The state’s Home Education Program guidance describes submission of a notarized affidavit or unsworn declaration before a program begins and annually thereafter. It also discusses the accompanying information and educational objectives.
Read the full current guidance and the school district’s instructions before filing. Do not use another state’s notice form as a substitute.
Plan for records and evaluation
Pennsylvania’s home education resources address portfolios, evaluation, and other program requirements. Learn what is required for the student’s age and circumstances before deciding how to organize the year.
Place documentation and evaluation arrangements on the calendar early. If a student is approaching a school transition or graduation, review the relevant state and receiving-institution policies directly.
A practical preparation list
- Identify the applicable home education or tutoring route.
- Review the current state guidance and local filing instructions.
- Prepare the required starting documents and educational objectives.
- Understand the records, assessments, and evaluation process.
- Choose resources and a routine the household can maintain.
Keep the learning goals visible
A clear record system is easier to maintain when each resource has a purpose. Identify what a course, book, activity, or co-op will contribute, and keep useful completion information and learning samples as appropriate.
